Undersuits for all

Undersuits have come on leaps and bounds from the days of the woolly bear ; a multitude of styles and materials are available . Base layers , in one or two-piece form , are designed to be worn directly against the skin , typically featuring wicking properties to carry cooling moisture ( perspiration ) away from the body .
A secondary layer / undersuit is generally worn over the base and it ’ s this combination that forms a very effective thermal barrier . This ‘ layering up ’ is the key to making your dive as comfortable as possible and the type you choose depends very much on your own tolerance to temperature differentials .

Hand in glove

Keeping the hands warm or warm and dry is of equal importance . Thick , neoprene wet gloves or mitts will do the business in most cases , however they can also restrict movement due to their bulk . Dry glove systems require a little more preparation and maintenance , but may offer a better solution for those who are particularly affected by the cold or require increased dexterity for carrying out tasks underwater .
