( Caernarfon Bay ) and bae Ceredigion ( Cardigan Bay ). These two bays are only separated by a couple of miles by the peninsula , with the infamous Swnt Enlli ( Bardsey Sound ) providing the transition between the two sides . The two sides are very different in terms of their diving conditions . Bae Caernarfon is deeper with strong currents , making for some exciting drift dives along a range of different habitats , from mussel beds to large sand waves .
The coastline is also influenced by the mining industry – decommissioned mines can still be seen along the coastline . Signs of industry can also be found underwater , in the form of shipwrecks with long lost slate cargoes , from a time when Welsh slate was being shipped around the world , prized for its quality .
Diving such a wreck provides an opportunity to look back in history , at the same as seeing how wrecks act as artificial reefs . Arriving on the wreck through the darkness , you are welcomed by glimmering shoals of pouting and bib as your torch light reflects back from their shiny silver skin . Not much remains left of the wreck ’ s super structure except for the hundreds of pieces
