Hit the North
The overnight voyage to the reefs of Abu Nuhas could have been lumpy , but the wind continued to settle and the Explorer made easy work of the journey . We awoke the next morning to a perfect stillness , the surface of the water broken only by ripples from the RIBs as the crew set the moorings . An osprey flew low on the horizon , silhouetted against the rising run .
On our whistle-stop itinerary we had time for two wrecks before continuing north , and our guides chose the best – the Carnatic and the Giannis D . The Carnatic , in its day the fastest ship in the world , still looks sleek in her skeletal glory , glassfish streaming between the ruined teeth of the decking . By contrast , the Giannis D is a relatively modern ship , but its stern remains a quintessential image of the Red Sea . Both worthy inclusions .
