The Poseidon adventure
THE FIRST BSAC POSEIDON SE7EN TRY Tech event has been hailed a success , with 17 divers introduced to the world of rebreather diving . Originally set to be held at the National Diving and Activity Centre ( NDAC ), the joint BSAC / Poseidon Try Tech event was switched to Stoney Cove after the original venue announced it was to close .
Open to Sports Divers and above , the aim of the event was to introduce CCR diving to rebreather ‘ first-timers ’ and give them a chance to try the Poseidon Se7en units . The 17 try dives were conducted over the weekend , with participants shown the CCR ropes by Quantumdiver ’ s Colin Rotheram , alongside Gary and Lindsey Fell from Twin Peak Diving .
Speaking after the event , Colin said he was delighted by the response . “ The day was a great success . Each session consisted of an initial briefing of the unit and dive plan , dos and don ’ ts whilst using the unit and finishing with the all-important dive . All the attendees took to the unit extremely well , just proving how uncomplicated the Poseidon rebreathers are to use .”
One try diver , Alex Diffley from Huddersfield BSAC , echoed Colin ’ s sentiments . “ Gary ,
Colin , and the team were great at covering the basics and getting us in the water quickly to have a go for ourselves . The session has really piqued my interest to seriously consider a CCR purchase .”
More BSAC Poseidon Se7en Try Tech events are now in the pipeline , with the next session currently being planned for Capernwray Diving Centre . Dates are still to be confirmed .
