Like many other divers over the past few years , my diving trips abroad have been curtailed by circumstances beyond anyone ’ s control . However , at the time of writing - assuming we haven ’ t plunged into another lockdown or indeed WW3 – it seems that travel is very much back on the agenda .
What better time then , to take a look at Beaver Sports ’ lightweight , TARDISlike Multi Bag ? Expecting to receive a cavernous 92-litre capacity gear guzzler of a bag I have to admit I was taken aback at the appearance of this flat-pack offering , until I investigated more closely .
This cleverly-designed and extremely lightweight ( 1.75kg ) bag is constructed from a tough and flexible 600D Cordulon nylon fabric . Just like a concertina , its ability to expand beyond its apparent size is quite impressive .
Folded into its smallest footprint the bag measures approximately 36cm x 36cm . When its five-compartment maximum size is enabled , this increases to a capacious 71cm x 36cm x36cm . As I discovered , it easily provides more than enough room for a full complement of UK diving kit .
The bag is divided into two main compartments . The largest of these , intended for wet gear has an inner plastic coating . Accessed via a large wide-opening plastic zipper , I easily packed in my drysuit , regs and BCD with sufficient room remaining for a dive light or other sundries . The second , smaller compartment was the ideal spot for my undersuit , mask and dry gloves . Both compartments are zipped together to create a section between the two intended , and fitting the bill perfectly for stowing away a pair of fins . For easy access this is opened and closed via two pinch-clip straps . Finally , two large 25cm x 25cm zipped pockets offer extra storage and quick , easy access for anything from a reel and SMB to travel documents and log books . It doesn ’ t end there , however , as the two main sections can be separated from one another and used as individual bags with their own set of hand or shoulder straps for ease of transportation . As my bulky UK-specific gear was gobbled up with ease , the Multi-Bag would have no problem accommodating a much more streamlined warm-water setup with some room to spare for t-shirts , shorts and towels .
