Jewels of Zanzibar : a shoal of glassfish at one of Rising Sun ’ s local sites to cross a shallow reef at high tide . This started the day with a touch of drama , as the boat made it over this obstacle with a gentle scraping of metal . I could see Kirsty grimacing , no doubt thinking of her recently completed paint job on the hull .
The southern sites provided a contrast to Baraza ’ s local dives , featuring a more dramatic drop-off and some big fish . There was also better visibility - a clean 35m instead of the slightly milky 22m of the local sites , though obviously they are all subject to change .
We revelled in the change of scenery , swimming through schools of blue-lined snapper and gazing up through an eerie forest of whip corals . Great barracuda regarded us from a safe distance , while yellowfin tuna swept in from the blue , trying to single out a snapper snack .
