The Swedish Navy warship Svärdet was sunk off the coast of Oland during one of the largest battles in Sweden ’ s history . Sweden fought against an allied Danish-Dutch fleet for control of the southern Baltic . The Danes sank both Svärdet ( meaning the ‘ The Sword ’) and Kronan (‘ The Crown ’), two of the Swedish Navy ’ s largest ships , on 1 June 1676 .
