Beadnell Point offers a blend of wreckage and a fabulous scenic cliff wall to explore . To reach the point , you ’ ll need to drop dive gear off at the telephone box and park next to Nacker Hole bay on the side of the road . A trolley may prove useful for transporting gear from the phone box to the headland .

Enter the dive on the north side of the peninsula between high and low tide marks . After dropping down you ’ ll literally be on top of the wreckage of the Yewglen . The bow hit the point in fog on the 29th February 1960 ; the crew abandoned ship and walked across the reef to safety . Today little remains , with the boiler and various crumpled pieces of metal scattered around the bay in about 3-5m . If the visibility is poor in shallow waters do not be disheartened , head into deeper water and the viz often picks up .
After exploring the Yewglen , follow the cliff wall , which leads out to sea , keeping your right shoulder to the reef . The cliff face is terraced with ledges resembling the closest thing to a crustacean city . The first-floor terrace is home to many lobsters from young to old . The upper apartments are each individually decorated in sponges , providing snug homes to crabs and squatties . As you head further out , sponges and anemones become more

Harbour road prolific , with the ceilings of the large overhangs ornamented with plumose anemones . The cliff wall eventually reduces in height onto a wide expanse of sand . Here , turn back and retrace your fin strokes .
