How have British seas changed in the 50 years you have been snorkelling and diving here ? That ’ s a really difficult one . Sadly , I think fish , particularly large ones , have become less abundant , and plastic pollution has certainly got worse . We now see more warm water species although it ’ s important to recognise factors other than climate change are also at work in species distribution . Trends are so difficult for individuals to pick up though , against the background of fluctuations , observational bias , changes in locations and activities etc . That ’ s why a systematic scheme such as Seasearch does such a brilliant and vital job . For me personally , British seas have become far more fascinating over those decades because the more I watch and study the animals , the more intriguing they become !
