We ’ re still looking for a new prize for a Star Letter , so please bear with us for a while longer . It ’ s a difficult time for the diving industry , so sponsorships are a tricky proposition at the moment .

Warrington ’ s golden milestone

WARRINGTON SUB AQUA CLUB ( BSAC 550 ) has completed 50 years as a BSAC club . Back in 1972 a group of civilians and service personnel on Burtonwood USAF base in Lancashire got together with the ambition of forming a Sub Aqua Club .
With the help of instructors from Chorley SAC , they learned to dive and formed Warrington Sub Aqua Club in 1973 , then affectionately known as Warrington Anglo- American SAC . Over the years we ’ ve had members attaining all BSAC diving grades and instructor qualifications . Alongside our in-house training , members are actively encouraged to participate in out of branch training .
Not unlike many diving clubs , our BSAC
branch membership has fluctuated over the years as we have felt the effects of the pandemic and global economy . Nonetheless , membership is increasing , with a broad age range . This is encouraging us to constantly look at diving that will engage all members .
Over the years , Warrington Branch has carried out hundreds of dives across the UK from our two Tornado RIBs and at local training sites . Scotland has always been a favourite for the club , exploring its many wrecks from liveaboards such as the Jane R , Gaelic Rose and MV Karin . We ’ ve also run expeditions to some global locations , including Australia , France , Sardinia , Jamaica , South Africa , Canada , USA ,
Ireland , Norway , Malta and Egypt . The future is looking positive , with two overseas trips booked for this year , one booked for 2025 and another in the planning stage .
At Warrington SAC we are constantly looking for ways to increase our profile . With the support provided , we ’ re happy to be part of the BSAC diving community and look forward to diving alongside you all for many years to come .
From a few guys on an American Air Force base in Lancashire thinking it would be a great idea to learn to dive through to today , we ’ ve come a long way . We thank our founders for their original determination to start what has developed into BSAC Branch 550 . KEVIN NORMANSELL , Warrington SAC

Trafford ’ s 24-hour dive

WE AT TRAFFORD SUB AQUA CLUB ARE pushing ourselves to complete a 24-hour dive in order to raise money for three causes . Divers will be working in teams to maintain a constant underwater presence for 24 hours , from 10am Saturday 1 June until 10am on Sunday 2 June . We will maintain one hour shifts throughout the 24 hours .
As a club , we care about the environment in which our activity takes place . The oceans are vitally important and they need to be protected . Also marine life needs supporters working towards that protection and raising awareness of the issues and importance , of the oceans , to the Earth .
We use the ocean and accept the risks involved , so we appreciate those who put their own lives second to helping others . Lifeboat volunteers are an amazing group of people and St Abbs is an area we dive on a regular basis . The lifeboat was forced to become independent and has thrived with support . We wish to help them continue to provide this great service .
We aim to raise money for the two charities and our club , dividing the final total equally between the three targets . Trafford SAC , St Abbs Lifeboat and the Marine Conservation Society . justgiving . com / crowdfunding / TSAC- Abbs-MCS SIMON READ , Trafford SAC
