Welcome
There ’ s an end-of-term feeling here at SCUBA Towers , with Christmas just around the corner and a strange silence from the contributors , who have filed dutifully before signing off for the year .
Hopefully Yo-Han Cha will finally be able to get some rest , while , conversely , Kirsty Andrews may rouse from one of her naps to embark on her umpteenth dive trip of the year . No doubt Paul Naylor will be squeezing in shore dives in his beloved , critterrich South Devon . Becky Hitchin is settling nicely into her role as science writer , and has great plans for 2023 .
Andy Torbet will doubtless be throwing himself off some vehicle or structure in the name of scientific enquiry . Incidentally , Mrs Torbet , known professionally as Becki Biggins , has a new album out , ‘ It ’ s a Man ’ s World ’, featuring her timeless jazz songs for strong women ( and good men ).
Meanwhile , I happen to know that our Crossword guru , Charlie Wheeldon , is off on a much deserved cruise . I ’ ve been meaning to thank the many readers who send in their completed Crosswords . Not everyone can win the prize , but the cumulative effect of your entries is to remind us that this is a relevant and popular page . Please keep ’ em coming .
I ’ d like to sneak in my personal congratulations to the members of Ras Al-Hamra Sub Aqua Club , based in Oman , who have won the Heinke Trophy . Lest we forget , the Heinke is presented annually to the club considered to have done the most to further the interests of its members ; it is BSAC ’ s premiere trophy .
In addition to recognising the achievements of RAHSAC ’ s members , this award serves to remind us all of the importance of BSAC ’ s overseas branches . There are thousands of people diving the BSAC way all over the world ; that ’ s something we should celebrate more often .
Finally , as we look to 2023 , I ’ d like to thank everyone who reads and engages with SCUBA . We truly appreciate our readers , and it remains a great privilege to make this magazine for you . Happy Christmas , and safe diving in the New Year .
