On board the Huskyan at Scapa Flow
can call on Advanced Instructors and National Instructors to help with those elements of the DTP that our regular instructors aren’ t able to complete.
Do you encounter any particular problems delivering diver training?
The Ocean Diver part of the DTP tends to be our most difficult to deliver simply because of the demand on instructor time to ensure that all can be successful at their own pace. Completing the parts of the boat handling course that require coastal waters can also be a problem, as we are far from the sea. We also struggle to build a sustained membership of qualified divers, because we are always training young people who then move away for university or work.
Anything else you’ d like to tell readers about?
This year we will be celebrating the end of our 40th year by continuing our tradition of installing the lights on the underwater Christmas tree in Stoney Cove. The lights are powered by a couple of truck batteries on shore. We are expecting to have the sounds working again this year, so you’ ll be able to shine your torch at it to hear the tune. We hope you enjoyed the festivities.
