Right-side rear pull dump
of adjustment inherent in the jacket ’ s design .
The wide , quick-release shoulder buckles were very easy to operate , so if you like to feed one shoulder in first and then clip or unclip the other when kitting / de-kitting they should do you just fine . I often find the corrugated hoses on the average BCD are too long for where I like them ( and trim them accordingly ) but SEAC seem to have that length down to a tee . It ’ s easy to access , to hold above the head and with a tug release air from the left-shoulder dump valve .
A corresponding , low-profile dump sits over the right shoulder and is activated by pull-cord with a good-sized chunky handle . Always my preferred choice to vent air on descent , it worked a treat , as did the rear , rightsided kidney dump when in the prone position . The sleek power inflator was responsive in operation , with a nicely-shaped , integrated mouthpiece for oral inflation if required . As far as hose routing is concerned , gauges and alternative air sources can be run up through the rear of the pockets and exit via a specifically-designed opening at the top . This ensures everything stays nicely tucked away and close to the body .
Despite being a ‘ wing man ’ for the last couple of decades , the Smart was a pleasure to dive and I enjoyed the upright position it afforded when wall diving and at the surface while waiting pick-up .
Also included are an emergency whistle , attached to the convoluted hose , plus a double hose retainer , which may be clipped to one of the many D-rings .
