Troubleshooting common mistakes

Two steps forward , one step back
Slow down ! Extend your fins very gently , keeping the blades parallel with the bottom . Avoid rapid fin movement on the reset .

Legs go up and buoyancy is lost
Loss of stability
Keep looking forward and tilt your head up , avoiding the temptation to look down to see what your legs are doing . Breathe out . Maintain tension in the body core , and make sure you have a relaxed and stable position before starting the back kick .
Don ’ t rush the four steps or try and force the kick . Each step should be steady and smooth . Control breathing , buoyancy and trim to get a stable platform before starting again . Push your arms forward to regain a stable position .
Losing the ability to back kick at inconvenient times
This is very common and can be frustrating . It can be resolved by slowing down , establishing stability and deliberately thinking through the four steps of the kick as you do them . This sounds odd , but really works !
