Placing the training platform
Sports Divers and eight Advanced Divers . We are fortunate to have three Advanced Instructors in the club , two of whom are Instructor Trainers involved in the National Instructor Training Scheme . We also have four Open Water Instructors and an Assistant Diving Instructor . Our Chair David Bell is a past Wales Regional Coach and also spent six years on BSAC ’ s National Council .
What sort of diving does the club do ?
We cater for all levels of diving , from open-circuit recreational to closed-circuit technical and pretty much everything in between . A number of club members have made the leap into twin-set diving , with Advanced Decompression Procedures as the next progressive step .
What is the local diving like ?
We are lucky to be a couple of hours drive from the diving around Abercastle , on the Pembrokeshire coast , between Fishguard and St Davids . Abercastle has a small car park and a narrow slip to launch the RIB . A very short boat ride of about five minutes , gets you to the First World War wreck , SS Leysian located close in to the cliffs .
There are mainly keel plates left of this 400ft ( 121m ) long cargo vessel , but if you follow them away from the cliffs , you come across an impressive prop shaft , which leads to some stern plates . The depth is about 10-12 metres ; it ’ s mainly flattish rocky bottom with shallow gullies and usually some fish , crabs and crayfish about . Seals can pop up sometimes … it ’ s well worth diving .
