Lunesdale learning
One club which has already taken advantage of the eLearning platform to progress their Ocean Diver training during lockdown is Lancashire-based Lunesdale SAC , who trialled the system with two of their Ocean Diver trainees .
Instructor Alf Yates said the option to complete their theory online meant new members Becky Townend and Sarah Mulliner could start their Ocean Diver training , despite the summer lockdown .
“ We were conscious that we had two very keen trainees wanting to begin training and we didn ’ t want them to lose that commitment in the lockdown ,” Alf explained . “ The eLearning system enabled them to engage with us , begin their training and become as fully involved in our club community as the restrictions allowed .”
With both Sarah and Becky eventually able to complete their open water training to become qualified Ocean Divers before the second lockdown , Lunesdale now plans to integrate eLearning into their diver training programme .
“ Incorporating the option of the eLearning platform enables us to be a more inclusive club which is forwardfacing and able to meet the needs of any new trainees who want to train with Lunesdale ,” Alf added .

BSAC launches Sports Diver eLearning

BSAC ’ S SECOND MOST POPULAR COURSE , SPORTS DIVER , HAS been added to the new eLearning platform so students can opt to complete their theory modules online .
From mid-January , Sports Diver joins Ocean Diver and Discovery Diver as the latest Diver Training Programme course to be made available on BSAC ’ s Online Learning Hub .
Launched last summer to support clubs and members , the eLearning platform aims to make BSAC training more flexible when it comes to how and when trainees complete their theory sessions .
“ There are many benefits to BSAC ’ s eLearning system , and it responds to the needs of both members and clubs . The theory sessions can be taken any time to suit the student , and they can also complete the theory before they start the practical sessions ,” explained BSAC ’ s Business Development Officer , Adrian Collier .
“ From BSAC ’ s perspective , online learning also means the content is always upto-date and reduces our impact on the environment .”
In 2019 , more than 1,000 members completed their Sports Diver qualification . With the additional option of completing the theory sessions online and in their own time , Sports Diver trainees now have extra flexibility on how they study .
The Sports Diver eLearning provides six online theory modules to complete , with each module containing a study section , video learning and a short quiz . Open to qualified Ocean Divers and other agency divers with the equivalent grades , students ’ progress is then recorded on their MyBSAC page .
New Sports Diver trainees can purchase their digital training packs online . Members who purchased a Sports Diver pack between 1 October 2019 and September 2020 and wish to take part in eLearning , should email adrianc @ bsac . com to discuss the options available .
BSAC ’ s other diver and snorkeller grades , as well as suitable Skill Development Courses , will also be added to the eLearning system in the coming months .
