FILM FESTIVAL www.adex.asia BORNEO FROM BELOW By Aaron “Bertie” Gekoski and Scubazoo This online series is devoted entirely to Borneo’s beautiful marine environment, and is produced by Scubazoo – Southeast Asia’s leading underwater production company. Each fun, informative weekly episode showcases the region’s incredible underwater inhabitants, as well as investigating major environmental issues and featuring photographic tips and techniques. ADEX presents three inspiring episodes of this groundbreaking series: Death by Plastic In this episode, presenter Aaron “Bertie” Gekoski investigates the impact that plastic is having on our underwater world, such as the infamous Great Pacific Garbage Patch – a gyre of marine debris particles in the northern Pacific Ocean. He heads out on a particularly trashy dive, meets a scientist who performed an autopsy on a pilot whale that washed up with four kilos of trash in its stomach, and looks at what can be done on an individual level to combat our current plastic crisis. Borneo Shark Special In this extended episode of Borneo from Below, presenter Aaron “Bertie” Gekoski jumps into fishy waters to document the region’s shark tourism industry. He also looks at one eco dive operator and sees what they’re doing to help conserve sharks, and heads to local fish markets where he finds sad evidence of the shark fin trade. Ultimately, he suggests some simple steps we can all follow to help save shark populations worldwide. Galloping Extinction: The Last Stand of the Seahorse The seahorse is one of the most unique animals to be found on our reefs, but all is not well in their underwater stable. \
