PHOTO CLINIC Flamingo tongue snail, West Palm Beach, Florida Equipment and Settings: Olympus TG-3, Olympus PT-056 housing, Sea&Sea YS-01 strobe, f/6.3, 1/200s, ISO 200 Lia Flamingo tongues have such interesting patterns that you really want them to stand out in your composition. For this reason, I would shoot from the side and use the water column as a background, so that the patterns on the shell are not competing with the fan. If you took this approach, you could also move your strobe to the centre and down to focus on the shell, and eliminate the need to add a second strobe to fill in the shadows that are created on the right side of your image. Joseph Much like the fireworm, flamingo tongues burst with interesting patterns and colours. I find the orange and pink hue match well with the purple and blue tones of the background. If you shoot this subject more from the side to include open water, the colours of the flamingo tongue will “pop” even more.
