FOOD SPECIALTIES
Bonaire food is an extremely
eclectic mix and there are a
surprising number of great
restaurants for a relatively small
island. Not blessed with ideal
conditions for growing its own
produce, it has always relied
heavily on imports and ship
schedules for fresh consumables.
Caribbean influences infuse the
local cuisine with papaya, plantain,
wahoo (a meaty fish) and funchi
(a kind of cornmeal pudding).
Also the Dutch brought smoked
meats and wonderful cheeses. SDOP
