BUDGET AND LUXURY
02
This is one of the most important sites of marine
biodiversity in the whole of the unique and richly
diverse Coral Triangle and no doubt the macro
critters from mimic octopus to zebra crab to frogfish
will delight. Yet amazingly, Anilao is harbouring a big
secret. Known far and wide for its macro diversity,
there is also larger life here. Batfish drift around
Bethlehem, a lovely site on nearby Maricaban island,
which is completely awash with a mind-blowing
diversity of creatures. Squat lobsters and harlequin
shrimps wriggle around barrel sponges while schools
of angelfish cruise languidly by.

Underwater photographers are well catered
for at Aiyanar with a dedicated, climate-controlled
camera room. Designed by photographers for
photographers, 18 rubber-topped, ergonomic
work stations include air hoses and wall sockets
for all charging requirements. All dive staff at
Aiyanar have been trained to handle and care for
camera equipment.
Aiyanar also has a gorgeous infinity pool
overlooking the Verde Island Passage and the highlytrained staff are ready to serve with an attention to
detail that will make your stay truly memorable.

WHEN
Anilao is a year-round destination,
but October to the end of May
is the best time to visit. Strong
monsoons can hit during July
and August so it is best to avoid
this period. Visibility is very
good throughout the year and
can be up to 20 metres. Water
temperature is from 25–27oC.
April to May is the peak season for
visitors so expect more crowds.
HOW
Manila’s Ninoy Aquino
International Airport is well
connected to mainstream airports
all round the world. From there it
is an easy 2½-hour drive to Anilao.
Your resort will no doubt transfer
you but if travelling independently
there are taxis and buses.

TOPSIDE
Anilao as a tourist destination is
very much focused on the diving and
underwater photography. Socialising
is pretty much exclusively at your
resort. However, there are other
activities to pursue such as
sea-kayaking, boat rides and picnics
on private beaches or visiting
volcanic springs.
ENTRY
Most foreign nationals can stay
for a month with a visa purchased
on arrival. However, as with most
destinations it is a good idea to
check with your local Philippines
embassy for up-to-date information
before you travel.
