UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY IN CALIFORNIA

MACRO SUBJECTS:
• California’s nutrient-rich waters
sustain a dazzling array of
nudibranchs, which range in size from
smaller than a grain of rice to larger
than your hand.
• The kelp forest is truly a vertical
structure, so don’t forget to inspect
the leaves; nudibranchs, snailfish,
crabs, and topsnails inhabit the kelp
and make fantastic photo subjects.
• Scrutinise rocky reefs very carefully.
Many macro subjects (such as
fringehead blennies) blend so well
with their surroundings that you might
only spot them if they move.
