Kirsty ’ s cuttlefish triumph
SCUBA COLUMNIST KIRSTY ANDREWS HAS BEEN CROWNED winner in the 2024 British & Irish Underwater Photography Championship .
Organised by The British Society of Underwater Photographers ( BSoUP ) and supported by BSAC , the splash-in style competition saw photographers from around Britain and the Republic of Ireland take to the water on 14 September for a single nominated day of photography . This year ’ s category winners were Dave Peake ( Mankind ’ s Impact on the Environment ), Dan Bolt ( Close-Up ) and Kirsty Andrews ( Wide-Angle ).
Kirsty won the overall Championship with her dynamic shot of a cuttlefish that the judges agreed had shown great creativity and skill to achieve . She has now been presented with the competition ’ s Peter Scoones Trophy .
Organiser and chair of the judges Paul Colley said that he had been impressed by the variety of images submitted for the 2024 competition .
“ The pictures ranged from tiny nudibranchs to blue sharks , showing what an amazing variety of life UK and Irish divers can photograph in our marine and freshwater habitats .
“ It ’ s a fairly tough competition , given that images have to be taken and submitted in one day . But it ’ s also great fun with regional groups and friends getting together around our shores for the event .”
