Meet the new diving boss

BSAC HAS WELCOMED DOM ROBINSON as its new Head of Diving and Training . Dom , who lives in Plymouth , will now lead the development and delivery of BSAC training and diving / snorkelling support services . He will report to BSAC ’ s CEO and work as part of HQ ’ s senior executive team .
This brand-new position has been created to directly support BSAC ’ s new strategy . The role also underpins BSAC ’ s vision - to ensure that everybody can access the type of diving and training they want , in the way that best suits them , and at the same time enabling them to feel part of the BSAC community .
Speaking on his appointment , Dom said he welcomed the opportunity to join the BSAC team .
“ I am extremely pleased to be taking on the Head of Diving and Training role at a key time for BSAC and using my skills to support the implementation of the new strategy .
“ As a long term BSAC member , I ’ m passionate about the organisation and am confident that I will be able to make a significant difference .”
Having learned to dive early in life , Dom is currently a member of Plymouth Sound Divers , and comes to BSAC from his position as Officer in Charge of the Joint Service Sub Aqua Diving Centre ( JSSADC ). He previously spent 24 years in the Army , first as an engineering officer before re-training as a helicopter pilot .
A National Instructor , Snorkel Instructor Trainer and CCR diver , Dom is also currently serving on BSAC ’ s National Diving Committee as Technical Chief Examiner .
BSAC CEO , Mary Tetley , said : “ The Head of Diving and Training post is a significant move for BSAC that will see the development of both new and existing training and diving / snorkelling support services to broaden the Club ’ s appeal .
“ With a clear focus on membership , participation and engagement , Dom has all the knowledge , experience and leadership skills to drive this pivotal role forward . We are excited to be welcoming him to the BSAC team .”

The practical guide to planning diving projects has been compiled by a team of experienced diving project leaders and supports BSAC ’ s drive to promote diving with a purpose .
Organising a diving project can be a great way of enhancing your diving skills , discovering new dive sites , and seeing familiar dive sites in a new light .
BSAC ’ s Heritage Advisor , Jane Maddocks , author of the guide , said that with winter approaching , now ’ s the perfect time to plan diving projects for 2022 . And the new guide , which brings together all the essential dive project planning guidance from BSAC ’ s Diver Training Programme , is a great place to start .
“ Sometimes , having a good idea about a mini project that can involve everyone in your group , perhaps over a weekend , can be a bit of a challenge ,” Jane explained .
“ Going through all the Dive Leader classroom lessons and reading the Expedition Manual to find what you need to know can seem a bit daunting if this is your first go at planning a small project . This guidance is aimed at divers who may be new to planning diving with a purpose for their branch or group of friends .”
