Dauin , Dumaguete
The island of Negros offers a chance to experience high quality muck diving sites close to beautiful coral reefs . The coastline of Dauin is just 20 minutes from the city of Dumaguete , and is home to a number of luxury beachfront dive resorts .
In addition to the coastal dive sites , Dauin offers access to Apo Island , a small marine reserve that offers pristine coral , turtle and sea snakes , among others . Its signature site , Coconut Point , offers encounters with bumphead parrotfish over the course of a drift dive .
The Dauin area is best for anyone who needs a swanky resort – some of the best in the world can be found here , including Atlantis Dive Resort and Atmosphere , known for its spa and picturesque pools .

Puerto Galera , Mindoro
Another resort enclave , Puerto Galera is more inclusive in its pricing , proving popular with backpackers and dive travellers alike . The scuba scene here is a mixed bag , with serene coral gardens , deep walls and three purpose-sunk wrecks .
The signature dive is probably Verde Island , a day trip from the main enclave but well worth the time at sea , as it offers incredible diversity . Expect to see octopus , nudibranchs and frogfish in abundance .
Puerto Galera ' s popularity relies on its range of diving , affordability and nightclub scene , which is as ' vibrant ' as it gets . It also has some beautiful beaches , luring the crowds in from Manila . Getting there ’ s easy enough - from Manila , it ' s a two-hour road trip to Batangas Pier , then an hour ' s ferry ride to the island of Mindoro . Most of the big resorts can arrange your journey from the airport .
