What affect has Covid had on the club ?
We struggled during the first year of Covid , but have bounced back quite well and , with the reopening of the pool and resumption of try dives , we managed to gain some new members in 2021 . For obvious reasons , we had no trainees in 2020 apart from a few remaining from the end of 2019 , but we took on three in 2021 . Although lockdown was eased quite a while ago , it ’ s taken a long time to re-establish the link between try dives and new trainees . We expect our diving membership to increase further in 2022 .
What did you do last year ?
We managed five hard boat trips in 2021 with some great viz and happy divers . There seems to be quite a positive buzz in the club and a lot more action around getting out and going diving . We used WhatsApp groups to plan trips and keep everyone informed and now we ’ re getting back to oversubscribed trips . For our July Portland trip , we ’ ve had to charter a second hardboat .
