Your Sweetie
Valentine’s Day can be a stressful holiday for many people. Society highlights the importance of this day so much that before you know it, you are coerced into buying a sappy card and a box of chocolates for a ridiculous amount of money.
Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy being on the receiving end of Valentine’s Day as much as the next girly-girl. But, as my love for my husband matures, I desire to give him gifts that last longer than one day. After all, we are called to demonstrate our love for our spouses every day, and not just one day a year.
1 John 4 verses 8 and 16 tell us that God is love, and I can’t think of a better way to love our spouses than to shower them with the Word of God. Not to be preachy, but to highlight the truth that sometimes The Bible can more accurately communicate my love than any sentiment found in the greeting card section of a store.
So, for the twenty-eight days of February, I am going to gift my husband with a verse from the Bible. I might send some over text or e-mail while others I will write on his bathroom mirror or car windows (dry erase markers have so many uses). The ones more sensual in nature, I might whisper to him while wearing a for-his-eyes-only outfit, and the verses describing forgiveness or the depths of God’s love are best included in a love note citing specific examples from our marriage.
