Where Are You Looking?
By Chizoba Morah
I would like to start with a question to you: When you have an issue or problem in your life, where do you look?
When I renewed my relationship with Christ, I actually thought that knowing him more meant that all my problems would be solved. I was beginning to despair when it seemed as if my problems were multiplying, instead of diminishing. A consultation session with my pastor set me straight. He helped me discover the following passage:
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze
(Isaiah 43:2, NIV)
In other words, as children of God, the fact that we face problems and mountains, is simply inevitable. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. It sounded disheartening and exhausting. I have since realized that being disheartened and exhausted was a result of my trying to solve my issues all by lonesome. I felt tired and exhausted when I forgot that God has provided us all that we need to overcome and to persevere. More than boldness and courage, he has given us salvation, through the death of Christ and a comforter, the holy spirit, who is always with us.
