get used for everything. Even shopping lists. u SB What are your
interests outside of illustration? Liam: I love history, especially
how it ties in with art and war. u SB Tell us about a favourite
project you’ve recently completed. Liam: An oil painting for the
Royal Academy of Arts in London. u SB Who are your illustration
heroes? Liam: I adore the great originals; Sir John Tenniel of Alice
in Wonderland fame. The perfect writer/ illustrator partnership.
It was Tenniel who gave the Mad Hatter the famous ticket in his
hat. It was never mentioned in any of the books. He contributed
and enhanced without ever taking over. Also worth a mention
is William Heath Robinson. Delicious ideas and a master of
watercolour. u SB Who are your musical heroes? Liam: John
Martyn and Neil Young are pretty up there. u SB What’s the
best advice you’ve ever been given? Liam: ‘It’s not the pursuit of
happiness, it’s the happiness of the pursuit’. u SB What advice
would you give to someone wanting to get into illustration?
Liam: Work very hard and be very honest with yourself about the
results you are achieving. Oh and start at the top.
