interview with an illustrator
Sara Hingle
the illustrator and
beach lover tells of
how she likes to ‘Dive
In’ each day. . . .
u SB What drew you to illustration? Sara: I have been
surrounded by art since I can remember. My older brother is a
fantastic artist, so I guess I was trying to jump in on his crayola
sessions from an early age. In a career sense, I wanted to be
involved in something creative that was also commercial in
nature, so illustration and design was a natural choice for me. u
SB Do you have any formal design training? Sara: I completed
a major in Graphic Design and a minor in Illustration at Curtin
University, Western Australia. u SB Where are you from? Sara:
Pert h, Western Australia (the most isolated city on the world). u
SB Where do you live now ? Sara: Burleigh Heads, Queensland
(Australia). I moved here in 2002 for an editorial design job on
a magazine that I had been illustrating for. u SB Describe your
studio to me? Sara: I have currently hijacked my dining table
as I prefer the light in this room. u SB Describe the view from
your studio? Sara: Gum trees everywhere and a few visiting
kookaburras! Oh, and my dog catching a few rays out on the
deck. u SB What is your biggest inspiration? Sara: Blog trawling!
