interview with an illustrator
Miminne
tells us how moving
imag e & film
narrative often
inspire ideas for
her illustration s . . .
u SB What drew you to illustration? Miminne: I was given a
Fashion book of Christian Lacroix’s as a birthday present and that
drew me to Fashion Illustration. u SB Do you have any formal
design training? Miminne: Illustration at Central Saint Martins
College of Art and Design, the University of the Arts London. u
SB Where do you live now and what drew you there? Miminne: I
live in London, but I am moving out of the city, soon. u SB Who or
What is your biggest inspiration? Miminne: Andy Warhol. u SB
How do you get your ideas? Miminne: From films, music videos.
Moving image is always at the base of my inspiration. If someone
wants me to draw a fashionable figure in Paris, then I would
watch Funny Face, Pret-a-porter, Jean-Paul Goude’s commercial
films, Karl Lagerfeld’s film, etc. There are so many narrative
elements in films. u SB Do you collect anything? Miminne: I
collect anything that inspires me from old piece of lace to sweet
wrapper. I do not have a huge collection, but I like classic style
shoes, too. u SB Do you keep a scrapbook? Miminne: Yes, I
do. I have so many files and shoe boxes filled with old bits of
fabrics, newspaper articles, flyers etc. I cannot live without them,
