Den Boom tells us how
ideas start by doodling
and sketching . . . .
u SB What drew you to illustration? Eric: I’ve always liked
drawing and as a kid I was attracted to the underground
illustrations and logo artworks on skateboards, T-shirts, album
sleeves and gig posters. u SB Do you have any formal design
training? Eric: After secondary school I worked as a house
decorator but after three years wanted to do something more
creative. I did a part time course on multimedia design, and
then to Art School to study Illustration. u SB Where are you
from originally? Eric: Dommelen in the south of Holland near
the Belgium border. u SB Where do you live now and why? Eric:
Utrecht. I moved here because of Art School. It is such a good
place to live. u SB Describe your studio to us. Eric: I share a
space with three other great designers and Sjaakie dog in the
town centre of Utrecht.There is a really good vibe with music
on, good jokes and we give each other feedback. u SB What is
your biggest inspiration? Eric: Daily life, arts, dreams, music,
film, stories, friends, other designers etc. u SB How do you get
your ideas? Eric: I always start sketching, doodling, writing,
brainstorming, collecting, doing research on the internet, talking
