toys but tin toys especially. I’d love to fill a room with cabinets
full them. I have a lot of old cameras too, both still image and
Super 8 film cameras. u SB Do you keep a scrapbook? Claire: No
but I take a lot of pictures of anything I find interesting and note
addresses of inspiring websites. u SB What are your interests
outside of work? Claire: I love to visit museums. The latest is the
Hunterian Museum, an enormous collection of dissected animals
in formaldehyde, fascinating! u SB What is your favourite recent
project? Claire: I recently worked with the exciting Scottish
designers at Whitespace on a brochure for a large lawyers’
firm. I illustrated the cities where they have offices: Edinburgh,
Dubai, London, Nottingham. u SB What would be your “dream
commission”? Claire: Promoting visits to the different villages
of London and the rest of the UK. Also advertising worldwide
destinations too. u SB Who are your art heroes? Claire: The
animators Lotte Reiniger, Jan Svankmajer. I have a soft spot for
Sophie Calle’s work, Margaret Killgallen, Kuniyoshi. I admire a lot
of outsider artists like Adolf Wolfli, the postman Cheval for their
relentless dedication.
