WIND UP, BRING DOWN, WHACK!

PLAYING FIELD
HOCKEY
I
magine it's the championship
game for your field hockey team. You
are extremely nervous. The referee
calls the teams to get on the field. As
you take your position, thoughts
flash through your mind. Will I be
carded? Who will win? The game
shouldn't be that hard, I mean , it's
sort of like soccer and ice hockey,
right? You will never know until the
adventure starts.
The Gear
The sport of field hockey is in
many ways a mix of ice hockey and
soccer. The equipment in field hockey
looks like the equipment in ice
hockey and soccer and is used in
much the same way. The most
important field hockey equipment is
the stick and ball. The stick is flat on
one side, and rounded on the other.
The end of the stick is curved
upward and is called the toe. Field
hockey sticks normally weigh from
12 ounces to 28 ounces and are
usually from 34 to 37 inches in
Different types of sticks
length. All sticks are right-handed.
Even if you are left-handed you will
have to play with a right-handed
stick.
In addition to the field hockey
stick is the ball. The ball weighs
about 5 đ ounces. Like a soccer ball,
some field hockey balls are hollow.
Field hockey balls can come in any
color:
• White
• Yellow
• Orange
• Red
• Purple
