The Council in it's first year had inquiries about the ancestry of Gen MacArthur whose grandfather came from Glasgow and James McGill founder of the Canadian university, whose roots were in Banffshire. Others sought fortunes left to people of the same name and others trying to establish a connection with historic Scots. J. Kyd the Registrar General remarked, there was a very strong feeling almost of nostlagia for Scotland running through the letters he received. And those returning descendants from those who had emigrated were really our clients, and it is these people we wish to attract back to the motherland, to learn something about the places from where their ancestors came.
