E x t e n d e d t e c h n i q u e s Mu l t i p h o n i c (measure 2) There is only one multiphonic used in the whole piece. It is located on the 6 th string between the 4 th and 5 th harmonic (3 rd and 4 th overtone). The exact position of the left hand fnger is given in brackets (note a 45 ยข fat). The resulting sound is a mixture between different overtones, which varies according to the dynamic and the left/right-hand position. T r e mo l o b e h i n d t h e s o u n d h o l e Very lightly pressed down strings with indeter- minate pitch (behind the sound hole, as high as possible) played as a very fast tremolo. Repeat the bracketed pattern for the noted time (here: ca. 5''). (measure 4) c o n t i n u o u s wh i t e n o i s e After playing the overtone-rasgueado run both hands over the three bass-strings in alternation resulting in continuous white noise (sound pro- duction should be as consistent as possible). (measure 12) p r e s s d o wn s t r i n g s Press down strings on the fretboard with the right hand (best position: between XII. and XIX. fret), while the left hand is placed at the given chord. Then release the right hand very fast in order to let all the strings ring. This sound is always notated with square note heads and the box+arrow-symbol. (measure 28) G l i s s a n d o o v e r t h e s o u n d h o l e (measure 42) Stopped note of indeterminate pitch (lowest note approximately at the centre of the sound hole). Depending on the guitar the position of the left hand and the fnger-pressure may vary in order to produce a continuous glissando. While play- ing the glissando let all of the bass-strings ring. H a r mo n i c s All natural harmonics are notated as fngering indications, whereas artifcal harmonics are no- tated as sounding pitches.
