One day in 2014, there was an article in
the newspaper, that One Direction was
coming to Dubai for their “On The
Road Again” Tour.
I was jumping up and down, begging
my parents for the tickets. But my uncle
was the one who booked the tickets,
without telling me, and not just one but
three tickets, because he did want me to
go alone, and told me that my aunt and
he would come with me, even though
they didn’t like the band.
and joke about it and lighten the
situation. He died during my board
exams due to a heart attack. I still
remember the pain everyone and I went
through that period. I felt really bad that
I couldn’t be there for his funeral due to
my exams.
But I am extremely grateful that he had
come and spent the last 3 years of his life
with me. Without him, I wouldn’t have
been the person I am today. I wrote this
as a way for me to honour his memory.
Although I felt that my uncle was crazy
because the tickets were expensive and
he’d bought three of them at that, I
couldn’t help but feel warm and
thankful. For him, it was always a
“give-and-take” policy; since he’d
bought the tickets, I had to get 11
CGPA in 10th, he would tell me
jokingly.
Without him to convince my dad, I
don’t know where or what I would be
studying now. My dad didn’t want me
to study biology, but my uncle was the
one who told my dad to let me study
whatever I wanted to, and also that the
condition our family was in, we needed
more doctors; again jokingly.
I don’t know how he did it; he would
be serious and make the decision,
