One day in 2014, there was an article in the newspaper, that One Direction was coming to Dubai for their “On The Road Again” Tour. I was jumping up and down, begging my parents for the tickets. But my uncle was the one who booked the tickets, without telling me, and not just one but three tickets, because he did want me to go alone, and told me that my aunt and he would come with me, even though they didn’t like the band. and joke about it and lighten the situation. He died during my board exams due to a heart attack. I still remember the pain everyone and I went through that period. I felt really bad that I couldn’t be there for his funeral due to my exams. But I am extremely grateful that he had come and spent the last 3 years of his life with me. Without him, I wouldn’t have been the person I am today. I wrote this as a way for me to honour his memory. Although I felt that my uncle was crazy because the tickets were expensive and he’d bought three of them at that, I couldn’t help but feel warm and thankful. For him, it was always a “give-and-take” policy; since he’d bought the tickets, I had to get 11 CGPA in 10th, he would tell me jokingly. Without him to convince my dad, I don’t know where or what I would be studying now. My dad didn’t want me to study biology, but my uncle was the one who told my dad to let me study whatever I wanted to, and also that the condition our family was in, we needed more doctors; again jokingly. I don’t know how he did it; he would be serious and make the decision, NEERAJA 40
