THERE'S SOMETHING IN EVERYONE see a hero in my school watchman who used to greet every one of us I with a smile and the kindest of “Good Morning!”. I see a hero in the ‘tea anna’, who added a little extra sugar every time he served. Nothing else makes you feel as special as being the favourite customer, and the tiny perks you get because of that. I see a hero in everyone, even in the auto drivers who drop me off at night and just as I get off, say “Be careful, ma” The concern you receive from a fellow human being may probably be the warmest blanket one can wear. I also see heroes in the statues placed across the city. They make me hold my head higher, and sit straighter. When I see them, I think of how greatness was never achieved in a single night, and how to make a great impact with the simplest of actions. In short, unsung heroes, according to me, are not those who have performed typical heroic acts of saving people from near death, or adopted cities, or saved water bodies from evaporation. To me, unsung heroes are those that we come across in our lives every day, but never acknowledge their presence. These are the people who make our lives better by being kind, humorous, understanding and empathetic. M. MATHURAM 30
