DECONSTRUCTING DISCRIMINATION
here’s really no such thing as the
T
‘voiceless’. There are only the deliberately
silenced or the preferably unheard.
Discrimination has come down an
astonishing level, but has not yet been
abolished. It is found to prevail in small
pockets even now. Have we ever
wondered why all the advertisements use
women as a tool for promotion?
The percentage of reserved seats for
different castes has been in the system for
decades now, but is it being claimed by
the appropriate person?
Each person has faced discrimination at
various levels. For the highly influential
people, it has been easy to get through
this phase, but for the vulnerable and
marginalized? It has been a major
challenge. Though untouchability has
been abolished, in many a temple, priests
do not allow Dalits to enter. It is a grim
reality that even now, people oppose
inter-caste marriages, let alone inter-
religion.

People even vow to kill brutally in the
name of honour. The ones who are
deprived of quality education, and entry
into educational institutions due to the
influence of corrupt politicians, are
actually the ones who deserve to be
educated. Talented sports persons are
not able to shine, because of the politics
and the money involved in the
selections.
Have you ever wondered why it took so
many years for a woman to fly a fighter
plane? It isn’t because women aren’t
talented or intellectual; it is because of
the absence of a platform to be
recognized deliberate suppression. This
gender inequality exists everywhere.
A bill was proposed regarding thirty-
three percentage reservations of seats in
the parliament for women, and it has
not been passed till date. Not just
socially, this injustice exists even
economically. It’s a common trend that
men are paid more than women for the
same work in construction sites.
