GENERAL ARTICLES Geoscience and innovation By by Roderick Lawrence – AEGC2018 student chair AEGC2018 – Student day Tuesday 20th Feb 2018 This is the first AEGC 2018 conference being held in February 2018 at the newly constructed ICC Sydney (International Convention Centre) in Sydney’s Daring harbor. The conference a collaboration from several societies (AIG/ASEG/PESA), which are coming together to host the 1st Australasian Exploration Geoscience Conference. The conference is directed at the geosciences both national and international community and will include attendances from a multitude of disciplines from geological, geophysical, geotechnical engineering, environmental and academic backgrounds and hopes to be a very innovative event. available and you will be required to accurately register the number of students (max 10 per teacher). https://icmsaust.eventsair.com/aegc2018/student-day- registration We feel that it will be a rewarding experience for all that attend and hope to hear from you soon. We would love to extend our official invitation for teachers and students from individual schools to attend the fully sponsored Student open day on Tuesday 20th of February 2018 – 9:30am. Geoscience in all its glory! We are designing the day around student’s years 10-12 with interest in geosciences to provide insight into the geoscience industry, deliver inspiration for potential future study paths/ career development, or to simply develop some greater critical understanding about the physical earth, its environments and how we explore it in all its glory. Interactive Activities Above and below are some images from pervious conferences where students were introduced to and interacted with some geophysical investigative tools. The day will kick off with some inspirational talks from some young and innovative geoscience graduates, followed by some rewarding and fun hands on activities for the students and displays by some of our exhibitors. Sponsored lunch will be provided for the students and teachers and show bags provided by the Geological Survey of NSW. The schools will need to provide their own means of transport to the event as this will not be covered by sponsors however everything else is free.
