ASSOCIATION NEWS 2017 Young Scientist Awards (continued) The Committee would also like to thank Stuart and Firth’s two oldest daughters, who performed flawless duties during the Presentation Ceremony. Alexandra Garth handled all the 130 Certificates and envelopes and the 15 trophies without getting anything out of order. She also hid the second Sebel Young Scientist of the Year trophy until the last moment to disguise the fact that our top prize was in fact won by a team. Georgina Garth, who just completed her HSC exams a few days earlier, was in charge of ushering the student finalists onto the stage and this moved fluently. Each of the photos in this report was taken by them and they were posted on our Young Scientist photo gallery three days later. Finally, the Young Scientist Committee deserves special mention for their level of commitment and support for the whole year. All 15 committee members have their own full-time job and everything they do for Young Scientist is on a voluntary basis. Every member of the Committee is passionate in what they do, and all have the common goal of supporting the teaching of inquiry-based learning in NSW schools. In particular we would like to warmly thank Coordinator, Ann Hanna, who did a mammoth task of steering these awards forward in 2017, despite the adversity of family sickness which prevented her from attending ISEF. The committee would also like to thank Jonathan, Leticia and Timothy Bailey who were our official photographers for the night. 23 SCIENCE EDUCATIONAL NEWS VOL 66 NO 4
