2017 Young Scientist Awards (continued)
Macinley finished the interview by telling all the student finalists
that she was once in the same position as them, receiving an
award as a Year 3 student, and encouraging them to keep on
exploring this wonderful world that we live in, and continue their
passion for STEM.
A ‘Celebration of STEM’
A unique feature of the STANSW Young Scientist Awards is
the collaboration between the professional teacher bodies that
represent STEM education in New South Wales. STANSW, IIATE
and MANSW each sponsored fifteen or more K-12 awards in the
respective focus area. We were also honoured to have either the
President or the Vice-president of each association present their
awards.
IIATE Senior Vice-president Brian Barter, presenting a IIATE
models and Innovation Award to James Napoli from Glenhaven
Public School, with Maddison King assisting.
(i) STEM Science – Science Teachers’ Association of New
South Wales
(iii) Mathematics – Mathematical Association of NSW
MANSW President, Maria Quigley, presenting a MANSW
‘Working Mathematically’ Award to Thomas Schanzer from
Sydney Boys’ High School, with Mary-Anne Poyitt assisting.
STANSW Vice President, Vatché Ansourian, presenting a
STANSW Most Promising Award to Kaitlyn Kong from Hornsby
Girls High School, with Eliza Martin assisting. This was one of 49
STANSW awards presented.
(ii) STEM Technology & Engineering – Institute of Industrial
Arts Technology Education
MANSW Executive Officer, Darius Samojlowicz, presenting a
MANSW ‘Working Mathematically’ Award to Kazuma Phillips
and Akira Naumovski from Wollongong Public School, with
Mary-Anne Poyitt assisting.
