The Video: the information era
The following video is one that explains the era that we live in with respect to the effect of technology on our society and describes this era as the “Information Era”. The narrator of the video describes the 2000s as the era of technology. He first begins by discussing the history of technology, specifically the Internet, which revolutionized the way that we live today, and the importance of technology in our lives. He talks about the rise of the internet which then led to many social networking sites such as myspace, Facebook, twitter, instagram and more. All of these different social networking’s sites aim are for communication and bringing people from all different sides of the globe together, however, as the video shows, it is sometimes doing the opposite. Even though the intent and the intention of these social networking sites and the internet itself, were created for communication it seems that it is now leading to a lack of communication. The video gives examples of hand-written letters vs. e-mails, and the different meaning that each one holds. They state that the emotions and the meaning that comes with a hand-written letter is much more great than that which comes with a computer generated email. He also discusses how people are becoming more and more distant since methods of communication are easier so they do not put in the effort to see each other as often as before. He also states that this has increased recently because now all of the websites are now integrated in mobile phones, or smart phones, and so they are just a touch away.
