BEYOND THE CLASSROOM:
Students in The School of Humanities and Social Sciences extend their learning experience beyond the classroom.
To enhance the university experience and assist in the development of Career Architecture SM, Stevenson University offers students the opportunity to structure and to pursue a minor field of study separate from and in addition to the student’ s major field of study. Within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, minors are available in most major areas of study. In addition, minors are offered in religion, philosophy, and sociology, with the following full-time faculty members serving these areas.

Although they have the opportunity to join many of Stevenson’ s 50 clubs and organizations, students in this School may be particularly interested in Active Minds, Best Buddies, Criminal Justice Student Association, Human Services Club, and Psychology Club. Students also have the opportunity to work on and submit work to THIS < this. suacademics. org >, a student-run digital arts and culture magazine.

STUDY ABROAD
The Study Abroad Program at Stevenson University provides an educational experience that engages students in their personal, social, and intellectual growth by providing opportunities to explore and learn while studying with Stevenson faculty outside the United States. Stevenson’ s faculty leaders plan a variety of trips that include courses and programs abroad, during which course credits are earned.
Specifically within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Human Services Study Abroad program engages students in global awareness through international study. Human Services students traveled to Costa Rica and India to learn about the practice of international human services.
Tom Swisher, Ph. D., Professor, Human Services and Harold Shaffer, Adjunct Professor, Human Services along with 8 Human Service and Psychology students traveled to Kerala, India for the 2015 Winterim Study Abroad. The group participated in an International Symposium on Global Mental Health and visited local psychiatric hospitals, orphanages and other human services centers.
