AN EXCELLENT PRE-LAW OPTION The legal studies program is an excellent option for students interested in applying to law school. The same substantive and procedural law courses offered at law schools are offered in Stevenson’s legal studies program. A full-time legal studies faculty member serves as a dedicated pre-law advisor and assists students with law school applications. Graduates who attend law school find that the legal studies program at Stevenson gives them a competitive advantage. TWO DISTINCT DEGREES Stevenson University offers two distinct degrees related to law. The first is the legal studies degree. This degree prepares students to work in law offices as paralegals; it is used by many students as a pre-law program because it has a dedicated pre-law advisor and offers a Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) review course in the curriculum. Many legal studies graduates attend law school and become lawyers. The second is a criminal justice degree. This social science degree prepares students to work in law enforcement and corrections. BRITTANY APPLEBY-RUMON Legal Studies “I feel that the legal studies program at Stevenson provides a perfect balance of mastering the law and applying it to the world around us. In the classroom I am taught by intelligent and experienced professors who encourage us to reach out to the community through conducting law clinics, attending law forums, and interning for local law offices. What I value most about our legal studies program are the incredible achievements of our alumni who have gone on to become clerks for state Supreme Court judges and corporate attorneys for non-profit organizations. I know that with the support of Stevenson I have the potential to pass the bar and make justice a little easier for everyone to access.” 17
