Research
The School of Life Sciences has a dynamic, goal-orientated
multi-disciplinary research programme organised
around research groups that cut across traditional boundaries
between disciplines such as Biomedical Science,
Biology, Biochemistry and Neuroscience.
These groups, and their success,
ensure that you will be taught by
enthusiastic Keele academics of
international repute who are active in
a range of diverse research areas.
Well-established collaborations with a
range of international institutes, from
our local hospitals and the Guy Hilton
Research Centre (a world leading centre
for translational research) further enhance
our research-led and vibrant curriculum.
The predominant research themes
in the School are;
• Cell and Molecular Medicine
(molecular cell biology, cancer,
autoimmune disease)
• Centre for Applied Entomology and
Parasitology (molecular biology/ecology
of parasites and vectors involved in
tropical diseases, chemical ecology
of insect pests of medical, agricultural
and horticultural importance,
immunology of fish diseases)
• Neuroscience (neurobiology,
neuroplasticity, neurodegeneration,
auditory neuroscience and deafness)
• Molecular and Structural Bioscience
(structural immunology, proteomics,
structural crystallography, glycomics,
parasitology, virology, microbiology)
• Other staff in Life Sciences have
research interactions involving
Chemical Sciences (ecotoxicology of
aluminium and biological silicification)
and Geography, Geology and
Environment (tree and plant ecology,
tree-insect interactions).
