Pre-Masters Biomedical Science Pre-MSc, GradDip
Why study this course?
The Pre-Masters in Biomedical
Science (Graduate Diploma in
Biomedical Science) provides
a discipline-specific pathway
(a pre-masters year) into the
taught Biomedical Science masters
level programme. To date, our
graduates have gone on to study
MSc Biomedical Sciences
at Keele University as well as
MSc courses at other Universities.
It is a one-year full-time programme designed
for both home and international students,
with a background in life sciences, who wish
to study at postgraduate level for the MSc
in Biomedical Science.
The programme is open to science graduates
who do not meet the academic criteria
for a direct entry into the MSc. The MSc in
Biomedical Science is seeking accreditation
from the Institute of Biomedical Science
(IBMS). The IBMS is the professional body
of Biomedical Scientists within the United
Kingdom. The IBMS aims to promote and
develop the role of Biomedical Science within
healthcare to deliver the best possible service
for patient care and safety.

“The Pre-Master
programme exposed me to
a better understanding of
immunology, haematology,
microbiology, biochemistry.
I had the opportunity to
review cases that helped
broaden my knowledge by
introducing me to current
practices in clinical pathology,
treatment and monitoring
of diseases. The programme
exposed me to a new level of
challenge and environment
that breeds a versatile
approach to problem solving,
which has greatly helped me
at a master level with respect
to a better understanding of
advanced biomedical sciences
modules, general professional
development and carrying
out research laboratory
practices on a more
sophisticated level. I would
like to state that overall it
was an amazing experience
at Keele.” “I found the delivery of
the course as one that
accommodated the different
learning styles of all the
students, it catered for the
diversity of the student
population. The lecturers
were very supportive they
gave personalised attention
to the students. There was
good formative feedback
for all the assessments
undertaken and the
turn-around times for
summative feedback was
quick. Overall, the course
was excellent.”
