HARRY THYNNE STUDIED
BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE
“I am currently on the
Scientist Training Programme,
in microbiology in the
pathology lab at University
Hospital Coventry and
Warwickshire. Upon
completion, I will qualify
as a clinical scientist in
microbiology, a position which
combines a clinical aspect -
interactions with doctors and
patients regarding the clinical
implications of test results,
and a research aspect –
clinical trials, the introduction
of the latest diagnostic
systems and their validation
for use in the lab.
I applied for the STP during
third year at Keele. The
knowledge and experience
gained through the biomedical
science course were pivotal
in my successful application.
I completed my Biomedical
scientist portfolio as part
of the applied biomedical
sciences course, and the
process of gathering evidence
into a portfolio for biomed
then is exactly the same as
what I’m having to do for
clinical science now.
In fact, I’ve had lectures
in PCR, next generation
sequencing and the
microbiome that were almost
identical to what I had at
Keele last year. Another
component of the course is a
problem based learning case
study, where I was the only
one to have done learning
like that before due to the
PBL at Keele.”
LAUREN ANTHONY STUDIED
HUMAN BIOLOGY AND
PSYCHOLOGY
“Human Biology was always
a topic that interested me
at school so chose to go on
and study it at degree level.
I graduated from Keele in
2014 and really enjoyed my
four years there. The Human
Genetics module was one of
my favourite Human Biology
modules as it covered the
topics that really interested
me. There was also the
opportunity to study quite
a range of modules and the
lecturers were always very
friendly and supportive.
I would recommend this
course to anyone interested
in studying Human Biology.
I am now working at the
Wellcome Trust Sanger
Institute, which is a large
genome campus on the
outskirts of Cambridge, as a
Research Assistant and I am
thoroughly enjoying my job.”
