CHEMISTRY AND MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY | 3 Mike Edwards Programme Director for Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry Introduction Keele University has a strong reputation for innovative teaching and assessment, and this is at the heart of our Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry degree programmes. Our modules focus on key chemical knowledge, placed in a 21st century context, whilst developing a range of subject specifi c and transferrable skills through authentic assessment items. You have the opportunity to study elective modules in subjects that interest you during our MChem and BSc Single Honours Chemistry, and Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry programmes, or study two subjects through our Combined Honours Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry routes. There are many additional options available to you at Keele to help you stand out from the crowd when placing your fi rst step on your career ladder. You may choose to do study abroad in Year 2, learn a language, or fi nd a vacation placement during the summer, either in industry or undertaking research. Keele off ers many opportunities to work with local schools, inspiring the next generation of scientists through on-campus activities and teaching placements, or helping out with various activities as a Student Ambassador. At its heart Chemistry is a practical subject and our teaching laboratories and equipment are state of the art. From day one you will be trained on how to use a range of spectrometers from atomic absorption to NMR and use industry standard analytical instruments such as HPLC and X-ray diff ractometers. As a sign of our commitment to Chemistry teaching the new Central Science Laboratory will be opened in 2019 doubling our teaching laboratory capacity.
