MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Professor Nafis Alam
I am especially in awe of how our staff has demonstrated resilience , creativity and dedication in responding to the world ’ s evolving needs .
Thank you for taking the time to review the School of Business Annual Report for 2022 . This will give you a glimpse of our activities and accomplishments in the past year , and I also hope to share our aspirations moving forward .
As we continue to feel the impacts of the global pandemic , I am nevertheless encouraged and inspired by the contributions of all our staff , the adaptability of our students and the unified collaborative efforts of every stakeholder . I am especially in awe of how our over 80-strong staff has demonstrated resilience , creativity and dedication in responding to the world ’ s evolving needs . Amidst a climate of uncertainty , our staff powered on by innovating and improving upon our delivery via remote classrooms and hybrid environments .
Despite challenges , our Student Evaluation of Teaching and Units ( SETU ) performance hit an all-time high , while Early Semester Surveys indicated very positive feedback from students about education delivery . A number of our educators also received awards in acknowledgement of the outstanding performance demonstrated in their teaching .
In terms of our research , a healthy performance was seen , with the number of publications rising by almost 50 %. The number of journals published in the top 10 % more than doubled from the year before . Our research includes not only scholarly output , but also made strong contributions to industry and policymaking .
I believe these achievements , which you will see in the following pages , are a result of our cutting-edge courses coupled with the university ’ s nurturing infrastructure . In addition , it is an outcome made possible by the people of the School of Business , whose ability to harness powerful resources shine through in driving transformational ideas and catalysing the impact of their work .
Moving forward , I envision the School to not only maintain its place as one of the top business schools in the world , but to adopt a dynamic and vibrant approach in ensuring our deliverables are top-notch . While this report highlights our 2022 accomplishments , rest assured that we will remain steadfast and continue to strive for excellence in broadening learning experiences , developing outstanding research and driving innovation . In doing so , we hope to also strengthen our platform in the global community as we advocate for equity , diversity and inclusion in our research as well as pedagogical philosophies .
The School has also remained active in forging new industry partnerships to elevate research impact as well as educational experiences . With Monash University ’ s Impact 2030 as the guidepost , the School ’ s engagement strategy focused on building collaborations with key industry partners in the areas of Sustainable Business , Thriving Communities , and Digital Transformation .
