heartbeats, learn the proper technique to wrap an
ankle and how to identify a stroke.
Doosan provided students with household
materials necessary to create a small DC engine.
Through trial and error, students learned how to
properly assemble their engine and were able to
take it home with them. Also onsite was a mini
Bobcat and portable generator.
Iredell-Statesville Schools are grateful to the
many community partners who worked together to
make this day such a success for all students in
attendance.
Roush Yates brought with them an engine block
used by Ford Performance to power the Ford GT
super ca r. Students had the opportunity to learn
how 3D printing is being utilized to design and
test pieces in the engines being used in NASCAR
racing.
G.L. Wilson Building Company utilized video
filmed by drones to show students the many pieces
of a functioning job site. Students were divided
into small groups to design and build a small-scale
structure. Each build was subjected to a structural
integrity test.
Johnson Concrete Company spoke about
11 different careers within the field of masonry.
Students were provided with a handout, listing
requirements for each career. Students were able
to learn the proper techniques used to build a brick
wall using mortar and brick.
The City of Statesville Fire Department brought
a fire truck for students to explore and provided
an opportunity to try on turnout gear. Careers in
Emergency Medical Services and Fire Technician
were highlighted, along with training opportunities.
Energy United provided safety gear used by
lineman for students to try on. Students wearing
lineman gloves were asked to complete dexterity
exercises. During this session, the need for safety
was stressed along with the rewarding feeling of
helping others in the event of a natural disaster.
